Va. To Create New State Park in Loudoun County

RICHMOND, Va. — A new state park is being created in Loudoun County.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Friday that the Old Dominion Land Conservancy of Purcellville has reached an agreement with the Department of Conservation and Recreation to donate 600 acres for a state park.

Virginia has 36 state parks open for the public. The new property will join state lands in Stafford, Shenandoah, Gloucester, Henry and Albemarle counties that are in various stages of development as future state parks.

The state park system hosts more than eight million visits per year with an annual economic impact to the surrounding communities of about $206 million.

Early Sign-Up Suggested for Va. CSAs

RICHMOND, Va. — State agricultural officials say it’s not too early to sign up for subscriptions to one of Virginia’s 100-plus community supported agriculture farms.

Called CSAs, farms that have the programs provide a steady supply of fresh produce to customers by selling subscriptions. A subscription typically allows customers to either visit their local farm to pick up their share of the bounty or collect their fruits and vegetables at a central drop-off point. Some subscribers can get special rates in exchange for sweat equity.

Besides fresh produce, some CSAs offer eggs, honey, cheese, butter and cut flowers.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services advises consumers to sign up early because memberships fill up so fast.

To find a farm, go to and select “CSA.”

Santa and His Fire Engine Parade Rolled through Braddock Corner

It was a cold, rainy evening when Santa came to Braddock Corner, but those who were able, didn’t let that stop them.  We thank you for attending and all the donations that were given.

A great big thank you to our Social Committee for planning and organizing this activity.  The hot chocolate and cookies were most welcome!

Santa stopped and greeted the crowd and his helpers passed out hats to the children.  We presented our donations to them and then Santa was off!  It was a whirlwind visit but all was accomplished.

We thank the Arcola Volunteer Fire Department for all they do for the Loudoun community.
